Maxim Calver began playing cello aged 4. He studied at the Menuhin School and the Royal College of Music, making his concerto début in the Grand Final of the BBC Young Musician competition 2018 with the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra. As a soloist, Maxim has performed at the Menuhin Hall, Hamburg Elbphilharmonie, Wigmore Hall, Cadogan Hall, Tonhalle Zurich and Kulturcasino Bern to great acclaim. He is an ABRSM Scholar and Countess of Munster Recital Scheme Artist (2023/24 season). Maxim plays an Alberto Aloyisius Blanchi cello from 1906.
Kumi Matsuo, who played for us in 2020, is a versatile solo pianist, chamber musician and accompanist. She has won numerous competitions including First Prize in the 6th Isidor Bajic Memorial Piano Competition in Serbia and First Prize in the 5th Louisiana International Piano Competition, USA. She is now on the staff at RCM, working as Duo Coach to the String Faculty, as well as accompanying other instruments. Kumi studied at the Toho Gakuen College of Music, Tokyo, and then at the Royal College of Music, London.
